What you do though is go INT based instead and memorize the spells you want to use for offense, you use the sorcerer slots for buffs. With this you also get sculpt spells.early game, yes; I'd even say start with storm sorc -> 2 levels tempest cleric -> 1 wizard (for shield, mirror image, etc) -> keep taking sorcerer levels. but when you get to level 12, I'd respec to sorc 11/wizard 1 and drop the tempest cleric levels. you can wear helldusk armor if you're worried about AC, and the channel divinity thing is good ...You can look up a tempest cleric build for 5e, most of it translates to bg3.
