Gm 3970010 block
Being a 2-bolt block doesn't bother me too much since a good 2-bolt block will handle a lot of power, but compared to the old 3970010 casting I have in my shed there is a LOT less metal in the critical areas of these newer roller blocks. Anyone know this block GM 41 3970010. I know its a 350, (I believe), has a drivers side dipstick and a "8" for its build year. I would think 1978 cause the small pad in the front of the engine is the smaller square shape not the longer more narrow older style pad for 1968. The pad is smooth so theres no engine codes. Its cast GM 41 by the 3970010.Might be hard to find. My understanding is the 3956618 block was used for many high performance 302 and 350 applications beginning around January of 1969 while GM retooled the Flint plant for the 3970010 block. I don't understand the complete history and exact usage, but I believe the 3956618 block was used thru the end of the 1969 model year with a few of the 010 blocksI have a choice of 2 clean std bore blocks to use for a 383 mild street build max 500 HP, 1 is 3970010 4 bolt with good sonic test etc. Other one is GM Goodwrench Mexico build 10066036 4 bolt with little use, not yet sonic tested.
