I think transplanting into a regular GMT400 (non-3500HD) you'd have a hard time shoehorning an Allison in there unless you did trans tunnel surgery or had a body lift. It is correct though that these 2 years of HD's did offer the 8.1, it was either that or you got the 6.5TD. If you are using a 4l60 with your LS engine and the vehicle you are working on had a 4l60 then keep the factory transmission pins and swap them into the LS harness. It's well worth checking out and tons of great information. For 400 RWHP, your best bet is always displacement or forced air. I would start with a 6.0 (LQ4 or LQ9).I would just get a LS style 4L60E at a minimum. Personally I would ditch the 60E and get a 4L80E though. You could probably trade off the LS1 for an iron 6.0L too, which would work better for the swap. The truck accessories, intake and exhaust manifolds are an easier swap into a truck.
