D lights usually mean an electrical problem. If you get the car scanned, it should have a history dtc stored. Get the car scanned and get the DTC. Also whining noise has a lot to do with worn gears inside the transmission not making proper contact.

A few months ago, the D light on our 2007 Pilot EX-L AWD began flashing. The Pilot has 212K on the odometer. We had our local dealer check it and they told us it was the 3rd gear pressure switch, which validated the research I did on the cause.
