Jan 8, 2020 · Before 2007 the gearshift shaft was the same between ES and Foot Shift models. In 2007 they started making the 2 models with different gearshift shafts/spindles. Apparently the new ES gearshift spindle is not attached to the back engine cover, but the Foot Shift is (just like both models pre 2007). The difference is ES is a manual shift, tranny like your foot shifter only its shifted with an electric motor instead of your foot. My 2012 Rancher has the ES and power steering, which, for me, is perfect, but others like the foot shift. It's a matter of preference on your part.There is an 8mm shaft coming out of the front of the motor, goes through the shift motor gear assembly. Put a 8mm wrench or socket on it and try to shift it up and down. If that works than your problems are electric.
