I have a 1985 150hp Mercury XR2 black max with no spark to any cylinder I have disconnected ALL of the shut of wires (black & yellow (If I remember the colors correctly. I can crank using key or jumping straight to starter relay coil, electric choke works fine, disconnected the rectifier wires and checked it, the tilt and trim are ok.5,617. Oct 24, 2012. #2. Either will only allow the fuel pump to flow a limited amount of fuel, no where near enough to make much power. Check everything from physically pulling the fuel tank dip tube to check for crud ...This is a short test run of a 1985 Mercury XR2 we have for sale. It has really good compression around 150 lbs on each cylinder. Runs on 50/1 premix.

Re: 1989 Mercury Black Max 175hp Idle Stabilizer. Find the terminals on the switchboxes that are jumpered together. Any other wires that are on those terminals go to either an idle stabilizer or an "advance" module. Your symptoms are those of a failing high speed winding, not making enough voltage/current to fire the ignition at higher speeds.
