I think the best way to play Investigator is to play any other class, and to take the Investigator Dedication. Devise a Stratagem is extremely powerful on any striking class, but especially a Mastermind Rogue. This build uses ancient elf to grab swashbuckler dedication at level 1. Going the braggart route gives you panache when you demoralize and a +1 to demoralize while you have panache. Swashbuckler also gives you access to antagonize to keep thing frightened (and flat footed with rogue's dead striker).The trick to martial weapons on Ruffian is generally to pick up something like Mauler, which has scaling proficiency and crit spec when you're expert+. You're still limited by Agile or Finesse to get sneak attack, though, which means you're limited to d8 anyway.
