IMO, Shilen are the most overrated barrel makers on the market right now. All 3 of the barrels I have are not much better to a factory barrel as far as I'm concerned. They also did a poor job lapping them which means they foul pretty bad.
Re: Shilen Match VS Select Match barrels. One is straighter that the other and cleans up easier but they both seem to shoot well. My select match cleans up without a trace of copper while the other tends to have a small amout of copper in it. I like McGowen barrels and get a new barrel every year for one of a bunch of rifles. Excellent service & product. Cerro-coat available.Shilen makes great quality barrels, but not because the rifling style. The performance comes from good quality blanks with sharp tooling, good quality control, so on, so on. All barrels will finish at 20", have the same chamber, headspace, contour (M24) and 1/2-28 muzzle threads. It has shot several 5 shot one hole groups and sometimes it puts 5 in the .4s but it is a good shooting rifle for the money I have in it. It's a consistently accurate sub 1/2 MOA rifle to 1000 yds.
